Aims of Course
  1. To improve the quality of clinical care by GDPs, by updating them on current evidence based techniques and materials, for predictable clinical treatment outcomes in minor oral surgical procedures.
  2. Hands on to improve the provision of minor oral surgery by general dental practitioners.
  3. To reduce the rate of inappropriate referrals to secondary care for minor oral surgical cases.
Learning Objectives

On completion of the course, delegates should be:
  • More confident in their assessment and treatment planning of surgical procedures.
  • More confident to tackle surgical cases, involving flaps and bone removal on sheep heads.
  • More confident in their understanding of complications of MOS and how these are managed.
Learning Outcomes
  1. Improve ability to carry out an accurate pre- and post-operative assessment of the patient (clinical, medical and radiographic) for minor oral surgery.
  2. Surgical Extractions of teeth, appropriate diagnosis and management of common complications.
  3. Effective management of patients with bleeding disorders including those on oral anti-coagulant therapy.
  4. Principals and techniques involved in surgical extractions and other minor oral surgical procedures (Designing and raising flaps, bone removal and suturing).
  5. Understand the importance of aseptic technique, Understand the names and use of instruments and equipment used in these procedures.

Dr Kashif Hafeez

MFDRCSI, FFDRCSI, FDSRCSEd, PG Cert Med Ed

Dr Kashif Hafeez has been privileged with Membership and Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and was honoured with Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has completed his post graduate certificate in Medical and Dental education from Oxford Brookes University. He has special interest in Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology and has been practising in the picturesque Cotswold. He has been a postgraduate Dental Foundation trainer for Oxford Deanery and has been fulfilling his duties currently as an Examiner for Royal College of Surgeons Ireland & Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He acts as an expert & advisor to the General Dental Council UK. He teaches Oral surgery and Implantology at the Masters programme of BPP University, UK and lectures nationally and internationally on Oral surgery & Dental Implantology, he has been presenting his scientific work at various international conferences.  In addition, he serves as Editorial Board member for Porodental CPD and a visiting Oral surgery Professor in Pakistan. He has a number of international publications.  In 2013 he was honoured with the Dentist of the year award by APPS UK.
